How to Replace a Kia Sportage Replacement Key

How do you replace a smartkey or remote key?
The battery in your Kia's intelligent key will eventually have to be replaced, whether it is a remote key or a push-to-start one, or a regular metal key that does not contain transponder. This is particularly true if your car shows a message that states the smart or remote keys are in poor condition.
It's a simple procedure. In order to replace the battery of the key fob take out the mechanical key from the slit at the back of the key fob. You then need to remove the cover. Inside the key fob there will be the small screw that holds the battery in place. With a small screwdriver, unscrew the screw and remove the old battery. Then, you can insert the new battery and close the slit inside the key fob.

Note: Certain key fobs (transponder chip or smart keys) might require their programming completed. This requires a specific programming machine that only the dealer or locksmith has access to. How do you replace a battery?

Remove the old battery, and then align the replacement battery so that its "+" side faces you, and the "-", negative side is facing the fob's electrical contacts. After installing the new battery, turn the key fob on and off in the ignition until the door locks cycle. You can then test your Kia key fob to determine if it is working properly again.
How to replace a smart key
You could have the standard keyfob or Smart Key depending on the model of Kia Sportage. The smart key features an embedded mechanical key blade, however, the standard key fob does not. Both kinds of key fobs come with an internal battery that will eventually have to be replaced. Luckily, this is an easy process that only takes about two minutes.
Make sure to shut off your Kia and sit on a flat or well-lit surface prior to when you begin. Remember that the fob contains small parts that can fall in the event of a mishap.
The small release button is located on the lower backside. It can be a circular silver button or a rectangular slot. When you press it the mechanical key blade will appear and you will be able to open the key fob.
